Welcome to Therapeutic Care

I’m Damien McLellan, a practicing psychotherapist and course leader of the Carlow College Masters in Leadership in Therapeutic Child and Social Care Course from 2004 to 2023. I am missing involvement with the students and working with some gifted colleagues. I also miss working with foster carers on the Callan course and helping to make significant differences to the lives of the children and young people in their care.

I have been writing a ‘How To Do It’ Manual on this website, making theory accessible and relating it to therapeutic child care, social care, and foster care practice. I’ve written five chapters so far but now realise that the elephant in the room that I have been circling is the medical diagnosis and treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I have tried writing some articles on this very controversial subject but have now decided, that in order to do the subject justice and to avoid causing any harm I need to write the book –Beyond ADHD – Therapeutic Alternatives (working title).
